Don Awrey #26 Born 7/18/1943 Kitchner, Ontario Defensemen 1 Goals 8 Assists 9 Points |
From the Bruins 71-72 Yearbook Likeable and mean don't usually go together in describing a personality. But, in the case of Don Awrey, they fit perfectly . . . Off the ice, the Bruins' defenseman is as personable an individual as you will find - soft-spoken, smiling and easy to get along with ... On the ice, it is a different story... He is mean and miserable as Bruins' opponents have learned, all elbows, arms and legs to stop a man .. . Don was the Bruins' best defenseman in the brief playoff series against Montreal, a standout in a losing cause. . Although he lugs that puck pretty well out of his own end and has a good shot, the 28 year old defenseman's career high for goals is four the past season . . . Don never squawks but nobody on the team has more apparent goals taken away by teammates claiming deflections at netside . . . Awrey lives in Kitchener, Ont., in the off-season where he operates a hockey school. |
