Eddie Johnston #1 Born 11/24/1936 Montreal, Quebec Goaltender 27-8-3 Wins/Losses 2 Shutouts 2.70 GAA |
From the Bruins 71-72 Yearbook Ed Johnston had his finest year as a National Hockey League goaltender.. His goals against average of 2.52 was his lowest ever in the major circuit and he owned 30 of the Bruins' 57 victories with his back-stopping . . . Actually, Johnston set the 30 victories as his goal for the 1970-71 season . . . At one stage, Eddie J was the hottest goaler in the league with an unbeaten streak of 14 games which included a winning string of 12 straight . . . One of the top golfers on the Bruins, Ed may have to forsake the links on occasions this summer to take care of his baby daughter, Michelle He became a proud daddy for the first time last March . . . This is Johnston's 10th season with the Bruins and he'll be the first to tell you that the life of a goaltender with the team has been much easier the past few years than when he broke in with them . Those were the days the Bruins were anything but a power-house and he felt like a clay pigeon in the nets with enemy snipers firing 40 to 50 shots a game at him. |
