Visually Impaired Children’s Resource Center

Sight Loss Services, Inc., Cape Cod and Islands, is proud to announce the opening of “Kacey’s Korner – A Visually Impaired Children’s Resource Center” in our office in West Dennis.

This very special resource center displays a variety of educational and recreational resources for visually impaired children. Items include Braille and large playing cards, large print Scrabble, Braille Monopoly, tactile Tic Tac Toe, a talking globe and dictionary, ringing and beeping balls, talking crayon and coin identifiers, raised line coloring books, a talking map, Talking Battleship, large print dominoes, and textured toddler toys for toddlers, to name a few.

It is with funding given from the Cape Cod Five Charitable Foundation Trust that Sight Loss Services is able to offer this service for children - the only one of its kind on Cape Cod.

Sight Loss Services is a non-profit, human service organization providing support, information, resources, and independence training to people on Cape Cod and the Islands who are learning to cope and function safely and independently with the loss of sight. For more information, about the Visually Impaired Children’s Resource Center or other services for the visually impaired, please contact Sight Loss Services: 508-394-3904 or 1-800-427-6842 (MA). Large Print Medical Data Information Sheets

Sight Loss Services is pleased to announce the availability of our new Large Print Medical Data Information Sheet which will allow those with limited vision to provide necessary medical information for emergency situations. While the format is similar to the File of Life, this large print information sheet features a large, dark font and enough space to enable a visually impaired individual to record their information should they end up in a situation where they would be unable to communicate their medical needs to emergency response personnel. Although there is no magnet, we recommend attaching it to the refrigerator with a regular kitchen magnet or tape.

Many of our visually impaired clients have chosen not to attempt to fill out the small File of Life cards because they simply can’t see them well enough. It is for this reason that we created the large print sheet so that those who cannot see the smaller cards will choose to record their vital medical information on the larger one, eliminating the risk of not having their medical data available. We have provided a copy to fire departments on the Cape and Islands so they will recognize it and use the information provided on these sheets.

If you are visually impaired or have a friend or family member who is visually impaired, please call or email Sight Loss Services for a free Large Print Medical Data Information Sheet: (508) 394-3904 or 1-800-427-6842 (MA) or sightloss@verizon.net.
