SELF HELP SUPPORT GROUPS

Based on a peer support and self help philosophy, our monthly support groups encourage participants to exchange coping skills and problem-solving strategies that give them the confidence to maintain a productive and independent lifestyle. Groups meet at locations Cape-wide.

INFORMATION & REFERRAL

Our up-to-date I&R Network helps us to provide extensive information regarding vision loss, community resources, cutting-edge research, new treatments, local eye care physicians and more. We can locate services nationwide and internationally.

HOME INDEPENDENCE

Our Instructor will teach a visually impaired client to function independently in the home. With the assistance of adaptive aids and alternate methods, a client can learn to accomplish daily tasks such as cooking, money management, personal care, in-home mobility, identification, safety, etc.

ADAPTIVE AIDS

This program introduces a variety of devices which are designed to assist the visually impaired individual with accomplishing daily tasks. Items include cooking devices, talking technology, writing and labeling aids, medical devices and more.

OUTREACH

This program is geared toward reducing the fears and isolation associated with the loss of sight. We encourage visually impaired people with personal or physical similarities to form a mutual social support system.

EDUCATION & AWARENESS

Staff members make outside presentations to local clubs, professional organizations, groups, nutrition sites, schools, elder care and independent living facilities. We distribute a large print and audio newsletter quarterly and we offer a large print website accessible to visually impaired computer users.
